The Gold Supply

The US election, Brexit and the global pandemic – life as we’d known it till this point has been upended and many of us are feeling lost and overwhelmed. Some artists, unable to properly express themselves through their art sought meaning elsewhere, but others kept searching for the light at the end of the tunnel; instead deciding to join forces with other like-minded creatives to give birth to new, captivating projects.

That’s what happened with The Gold Supply, a new atmospheric, zombie-in-a-coma, science-fiction band from Reading, Berkshire, inspired by the dark times we find ourselves living in.

The band started writing and recording remotely as a means of counteracting boredom, but they quickly realised the potential of what they were creating. So, as soon as the lockdown had eased, they decided to rent a studio in the middle of nowhere to bring the songs to life.

Drawing inspiration from the likes of Massive Attack, Portishead, Bjork, The Verve and Spiritualized – and armed with an urge to communicate twisted together with some seriously melancholic vibes – The Gold Supply recorded a debut compilation of four tracks designed to hypnotise your ears and steal your soul.

The demo songs exhibited a beautiful, atmospheric and almost post-apocalyptic ambience – a combination of sounds and influences that would suggest that not only do these guys know how and when the world will end, but that they’re poised and ready to provide the soundtrack.

The demo Underwater Completely EP was released in September 2021 gaining excellent reviews and airplay courtesy of BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio, AwayDay Radio, Radio-Wigwam and many more.

The Gold Supply signed to AnalogueTrash shortly after, with their debut EP for the label scheduled for release in April 2022 alongside a string of live dates throughout the summer.
