Artist Spotlight - The Cremant

What is your name?
Sergei Snegirev.

Where are you located?
Nicosia, Cyprus.

What is your artist's name?
The Cremant.

How long have you been writing music?
Professionally, I have been writing music for eight years.

What inspired you to start playing and making music?
When discussing art, I wonder if artists can live another way. It's just a part of my life. I found calm, joy, and a way of expression in music. It can help me when I am depressed and make me happy when my life is okay. I started to make music in school when it was simply part of socialization. I played drums in the school band, grew up, and continued it as a solo artist.

What are your favorite artists or other artists that inspire you to write music?
It's a tricky question. Since I was a kid, I have listened to many genres. In my family was a massive classic rock music collection. And I grew up with MTV. So, alternative and rock music was a colossal part of my life. In my teenage age, I started listening to indie and electronic genres. Now I have a significant amount of vinyl albums in different genres. And I can't say that something is better. But if I need to choose some, let it be electronic music and artists like Brian Eno, UNKLE, BadBadNotGood, and LCD Soundsystem.

How would you describe your style of music?
Ambient music and IDM.

How is your personality reflected in your work?
I made more dynamic and fun music like synthwave, techno, and downtempo when I was younger. But now, I'm more of an anxious and depressed person, and I find stability in drones, pads, and ambient sounds. I still have a side project, BeatBoyNinja.

Describe your creative process when you write new music.
I have a small home studio, and it's my favorite place in the world. Sometimes I want to check the room, and suddenly, I come out late at night. I can't follow the time when I'm here. I'm always trying to find something new: a new instrument, new plugin, new percussion, or a new approach to writing. Sometimes I work in Cubase, sometimes on iPad, sometimes DAWless, or it can be only my phone. If I open something of it, I can't stop before I make it clear. If I stop in the middle of the process, it makes me crazy, and I can't feel good. I mostly complete all the songs I started, or they will follow me everywhere.

What is the name of your latest releases?
Pink Cloud.

What was the inspiration for that release? Can you tell us any "behind the scenes" stories about writing or producing this release?
I composed it in the days of anxiety. I didn't want to get up from bed and live my life; only music could heal and make me stronger. On these days full of darkness, I surrounded myself with cables and synths. I used different apps on my iPad with Cobalt 8M synthesizer, Polyend Play groovebox, and mixer.

What are you currently working on?
After the last release, I created my own digital synthesizer for ambient music, and now I'm making a new album with it and some effects pedals. In a month, I can show you my synth (pretty basic, not a big deal for the world, but a massive deal for myself) and my new album.

The Cremant (also known as beatboyninja), a Cyprus-based music producer specializing in lofi and ambient music and an ancient vampire from the Electronic musician clan. With many synthesizers and drum machines, I create a creamy texture like a French sparkling wine. I'm the riddle man. No one knows if I am esthetic, intelligent, and handsome...or not?
